Planning For Success is Essential to Help You Get What You Want
(This is the 1st Blog post of a 2 Part Series on Planning For Success)
Planning For Success is an essential activity to do to cast forward your thinking, and prepare and put in place a Plan to help stack yourself in favor of achieving a fabulously Successful year ahead.
So, let’s set some time aside, and make the most of this special time to do this activity that’s a truly valuable investment in your future.
Let’s draw a line in the sand for Success right now, and get ready for a great kick-start to the coming months and year ahead, eh!
Whether it’s just before a new year approaches, or at the start of a new year, or actually any time of the year is a really good time to prepare a new Plan for Success, or even review and revise the Plan you already have in place. >>>
I love this quote, which I’m sure you’ve seen around before:
“If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail” (Unknown). Or,
“Failures don’t plan to fail; they fail to plan” (Harvey MacKay)
But, I also love this quote, which appeals to my entrepreneurial nature and sense of humor:
“Plans… are made to be tinkered with – and eventually torn up” (by Tom Peters – known for his wonderful, innovative, entrepreneurial, “outside the box”, “Thriving on Chaos” book).
In my view, to be Successful, you actually need a combination of both:
~ Planning – absolutely, totally for sure!!!
~ But also not be too obsessive or rigid about it, and stay open to adjust your Plan, intuitively and inspirationally, for better things.
Getting the balance right is the key, so you get the maximum best benefit for YOU.
And, that is to get your Plan clear, focussed and mapped out so you have a clear Vision and practical, actionable Action Plan ahead to follow.
At the same time, stay flexible and open, because it needs to be a living, breathing, dynamic plan that evolves and can be flexibly and responsively adjusted, as things inevitably change…
Your ability to sense, intuit, and take Inspired Action, with speed along the way, is vitally important. To be agile, intuitive, and keep your eyes on the lookout for new opportunities that present, and be responsive.
I also much prefer to talk about Intentions (and Dreams) rather than Resolutions (of the New Year variety) and Desired Achievements rather than Goals.
New Year resolutions are doomed to fail because people stack them up at that time of year, they’re usually overwhelming, and by the 3rd or 4th day of the New Year, they’re already broken, and people give up.
On a Business level, I’m a strong believer in having a good Business Plan in place to guide you before starting a new business project, idea or venture.
Now, this need not be long and detailed. Not at all! In fact, the more concise and laser-sharp focused it is, the better and clearer it is to follow. You don’t want it to be bogged down in extraneous detail.
By sketching and fleshing out a business idea as a written Plan I gain Clarity and Focus that makes taking Action and achieving Progress much easier.
Going through the process also turns out to be a great further idea generator along the way.
Spending the time to put a Plan together allows me to brainstorm and consider all the possibilities, figure out and assess the potential downsides and pitfalls, and work out whether it’s financially viable.
Putting together a plan helps me decide if an idea has potential or is a no-go, but along the way I often find it transforms what was a maybe idea into something that really has legs.
On a Personal level, your Plan will look different to a Plan for Business, but having a Personal Plan mapped out is equally as important, with Your Intentions and Desired Achievements/Goals all set down.
These may include improving your fitness and well-being, setting aside more time for leisure (better work-life balance), more time for Family, parenting issues, personal development, travel, and so forth.
Be mindful about how you express your Intentions and Desired Achievements. Rather than phrasing them negatively like “lose X weight”, rather express it as – “achieve a healthy weight of X”.

What do you wish to achieve in the coming year? How will you go about doing this?

Best Success To You!
I love that you mention not being too stuck or obsessive about your plan … Things change. Opportunities present themselves. Doors open. Curve balls are thrown … and your plan needs to be flexible. You can’t make a plan, seal it in concrete and never look back … it needs to be organic. It needs to be a guide you follow, but adjust as needed to fit the evolution of your business (and yourself)!
